School Improvement Planning
School improvement planning is at the heart of a continuous improvement cycle in which a school regularly monitors and reviews effective practices that should be continued and ineffective practices that should be revised or eliminated.
The planning process is best thought of as a cycle of overlapping tasks: a comprehensive needs assessment, an inquiry process for verifying root causes and selecting solutions, and the development (or revision of) a school action plan. It’s a collaborative process with shared data collection, decision-making, and ongoing communication with the entire staff throughout the planning process.
This section offers suggestions for engaging in a data-driven school improvement planning process.
